DellEMC PowerProtect Data Manager for Cloud DR with AWS Cloud Part 3 – Recovery to AWS EC2

DellEMC PowerProtect Data Manager for Cloud DR with AWS Cloud Part 3 – Recovery to AWS EC2.

In part 1 of blog series, I covered how to deploy Cloud DR using PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM) for AWS Cloud.

In part 2 of blog series, I covered how to create PPDM Protection policy meant for Cloud DR.

In this 3rd part of blog series, I will cover recovery of a protected VM to the AWS Cloud using PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM).

At the end of this activity, we will see Cloud DR will create an EC2 instance on your AWS VPC (You select VPC during the recovery) as part of whole orchestration for the Recovery.

To being the Recovery, we will select ‘Recovery’ menu and click on Assets.

Select the VM which was protected as part of Protection Policy we created in earlier blog part. In my case, web_VM is the one which was protected for Cloud DR.

Next, we will click on View Copies to verify the necessary copies available on Cloud DR at AWS side.

Once you verify the correct copy that you want to recover. Select that copy and click on Test. There is failover option as well. We will cover Failover & Failback in next parts of this blog series.

Select the Network from AWS side for the recovery which will be used by EC2 instance.

Select ‘Security Group’ available for the recovery network on AWS side.

Review the Recovery summary.

Monitor the PPDM job status.

Verify the Job progress in PPDM.

The Recovery Job is successful.

Once the Job is successful, notice an EC2 instance for the web_VM was successfully launched and ready to test on AWS side.

Finally, you will see web_VM status from PPDM Cloud DR sessions from the Recovery menu.

In next part of the blog series, we will see VM failover using Cloud DR to AWS Cloud.
